Dr Ibrahim Obeid, ESSG principal investigator in Bordeaux and member of the Executive Committee, has been interviewed in the journal SpineLeaks.
In this interview Dr Obeid explains, by answering 7 questions, his personal views on his day to day as a spine surgeon. He goes through his voccation and motivations and the people that had the most influence on his career.
He also explains his surgical rituals, how he deals with complications and gives some tips for young clinicians who want to become spinal surgeons.
INVITED GUEST SPEAKERS AT THE PORTUGUESE SPINE SOCIETY
The Portuguese Spine Society Annual meeting took place in Porto in November. Among other international guest speakers, Dr. Obeid and Dr. Pizones were invited to give speeches.
Dr. Obeid talked about Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy (PSO), covering indications, surgical technique and results, with special emphasis on L5 PSO.
Dr. Pizones covered new technologies to plan deformity surgery and assess risk stratification, and the role of artificial intelligence in the field of Adult deformity.
THE ESSG FAMILY JOINS TOGETHER AT THE EUROSPINE
This year the Eurospine annual meeting took place in Helsinki in October. 15 Research Projects from the ESSG group got selected for presentation. After the hard working sessions the group had time to rest and enjoy together a “family” dinner at a nice centric restaurant.
AWARD AS BEST ORAL PRESENTATION GEER 2019
The Latino-American Spine Society (SILACO) and the Spanish Spine Society (GEER) have joined together this June to celebrate a combined meeting. Out of 80 oral presentations the award wining selected presentation went to the ESSG group for their study on Sagittal Plane restoration in Adult Scoliosis patients.
This is the first study describing the importance of ideal sagittal plane restoration in deformity surgery. The conclusion was that not restoring the patient back to the ideal sagittal profile could increase the risk for mechanical complications during follow-up.
